Toyland (Theater)
Location: The Puppet Co. Playhouse in Glen Echo Park
Bad ol' Mr. Barnaby (aka "the crooked man") is up to no good, and it's up to Mother Goose, Little Bo Peep and Tom the Piper's son to sing their way to a happy ending. This adaptation of Victor Herbert's musical fantasy includes such familiar pieces as "Toyland" and "March of the Toys,” with costume characters and near-life marionettes."Toyland" will be performed October 16+ November 20,2009 with performances Thursdays and Fridays at 10:00 and 11:30am and Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30am and 1:00pm. It is recommended for PreK-Grade 4 and runs 40 minutes. Tickets are $10.00 with group rates available.On Saturday, November 8, 2009, the 1:00pm performance will be American Sign Language interpreted. Arena Stage presents Quality of Life written by Emmy Award-winner Jane Anderson and directed by Lisa Peterson. In this “magnetic work of theater” (San Francisco Chronicle) filled with compassion, honesty and humor, we find two couples who are dealing with devastating personal tragedies. The couples meet one weekend in an attempt to forge a friendship out of distant familial bonds. The two couples, with widely different political and religious backgrounds, join together to confront their physical and emotional challenges as they deal with loss and survival. This "remarkable and completely engrossing new play" (TheaterMania) harnesses spirit and fortitude while exploring the promise of love, the pride of endurance and the quality of life.
